Merchant Center disapproved products: causes and how to fix them
A product Google Merchant Center disapproves does not appear in Shopping ads or in the free product listings on Google. The reason is always listed in Merchant Center, but the fix is usually on your website, not in the feed: the product page, its structured data and your store’s policies.

Most disapprovals start on the product page
Google checks the feed against the page the product links to. If the price or availability in the feed differs from what the page shows, or the page cannot be reached, the product is disapproved — however good the feed is. Keeping the page and its product schema markup accurate removes the most common causes at the source.
Some issues are about the product data itself: missing GTINs or brand, images with promotional text or watermarks, titles stuffed with keywords. Others are account-level: Google wants a clear returns policy, real contact details and a working checkout before it trusts a store. Account-level issues such as misrepresentation affect every product at once and are the most serious.
After a fix, Google re-reviews on its own schedule. Product-level issues usually clear once Google crawls the page and feed again; account-level issues may need a review request from inside Merchant Center.
The common causes
- Price mismatch: The feed price differs from the landing page or its structured data.
- Availability mismatch: In stock in the feed, sold out on the page — or the other way round. See out-of-stock product SEO.
- Missing identifiers: No GTIN, brand or MPN where the product has one.
- Image problems: Promotional overlays, watermarks, borders or placeholder images.
- Landing page issues: Broken, slow, blocked from crawling, or not showing the product.
- Shipping and returns: Missing or unclear shipping costs and return policy.
- Misrepresentation: Account-level: missing contact details, unclear policies or claims Google cannot verify.
How to fix disapprovals
- Open Products → Needs attention in Merchant Center and group the issues by type.
- Fix mismatches on the website first: price and availability on the page and in its Product structured data.
- Add missing identifiers and replace images that carry text or watermarks.
- Publish clear shipping, returns and contact pages, and set shipping and returns in Merchant Center.
- Wait for Google to re-crawl; request a review for account-level issues once everything is in place.
Questions people ask
- How long until disapproved products are approved again?
- Product-level fixes usually clear within days of Google re-crawling the page and feed. Account-level reviews can take longer.
- Can NicheSEO Pro help?
- It fixes the causes that live on your website: complete and accurate Product structured data built from your store, product page content, and the policy and contact pages the technical SEO autopilot checks.
- Do disapprovals affect normal SEO?
- Not directly — Merchant Center and organic search are separate. But the same problems, such as wrong prices in structured data, can also cost you rich results in normal search.
