Image SEO autopilot: alt text for every product image
On most stores, thousands of product images have no alt text — or the file name repeated on every variant. The image autopilot finds them, writes a short description of each image from the product it belongs to, and applies it to your store once you approve.

Why alt text matters for a store
Alt text is how Google Images and screen readers know what a picture shows. For a store it does two jobs: it helps product photos appear in image search, where many shoppers compare products, and it makes the shop usable for people who cannot see the images.
Good alt text describes the image, not a keyword list: “black leather hiking boot, side view, red laces” rather than “hiking boots best hiking boots buy”. The autopilot writes it from the product’s name and attributes and keeps it short.
Alt text will not rescue a page with thin content on its own, so it works alongside the writing autopilot and the technical autopilot rather than instead of them.
What the image autopilot does
- Finds missing alt text: Every image on the audited pages without alt text, grouped by page.
- Writes from the product: Name, colour, material and type — what the image actually shows.
- Applies it where the image lives: The WordPress media library, or Shopify product media.
- Checks and keeps the old value: The alt text is read back after writing, and the previous value is kept for undo.
- Flags slow, heavy pages: The site audit lists pages that are slow to respond or too heavy, so images can be compressed.
How it works
- The site audit lists the pages with images missing alt text.
- Alt text is proposed for each image from its product’s data.
- You approve, edit or skip each one.
- Approved alt text is written to your store and checked; one click undoes it.
Questions people ask
- Is alt text a ranking factor?
- For Google Images, yes — it is one of the main signals of what an image shows. In web search it helps Google understand the page, but it will not lift a thin page on its own.
- Should alt text include keywords?
- Only where they describe the image. Keyword-stuffed alt text goes against Google’s guidelines and makes the store worse for screen-reader users.
- Does it work on Shopify?
- Yes. Alt text is written to Shopify product media through your store connection.
